Zemanta is a web semantic pluggin for firefox (also for ie) that helps to write down post or emails and suggests links, pictures, tags…

For example, if I post about Barcelona, or diving in Costa Brava that’s is a typicall topic, it will show pictures related. I will add the some of the pics suggested about scuba diving in costa brava, and fishes.

Tenía el blog con WordPress 2.2 y como acaba de salir la 2.5 he aprovechado para hacer la migración. Ha sido realmente fácil, borras las carpetas wp-admin y wp-include, subes todo el código nuevo, ejecutas una página de upgrade, y se actualiza todo automáticamente, incluyendo la BBDD, que cambian algunas tablas. Si esto hubiera que hacerlo en java… es una de las gracias de los lenguajes interpretados.

Los cambios los iré descubriendo poco a poco, pero el más destacable es el nuevo editor de posts, que tiene un montón de botones nuevos. En la barra de Kitchen Sink (???) hay un botón para formatear el texto, es decir, títulos de diferentes tamaños, direcciones (??) y código preformateado. Ahí van los ejemplos:

Y otra vez paragraph, pero en colores diferentes.

Durante los dos últimos días el blog ha ido fatal, muy lento. No sé a que ha sido debido (posiblemente algún problema con el intérprete php), pero derepente vuelve a funcionar. De mientras, desesperado porque no conseguía volver a hacerlo funcionar bien, me he bajado la versión 2.3.1 del WP a mi servidor local y me lo he configurado.

Esta tarde tenía la intención de subirlo al host y así hacer la migración definitiva, pero como he visto que vuelve a funcionar… No sé. Merece la pena pasar de wordpress 2.2 a 2.3.1? No estoy seguro, por ahora voy a esperar a ver que pasa..

By the way, if you don’t want to have a special footer line, you just leave it empty!

I’m experiencing an ugly bug when using the MST plugin, that consists on having 4 breaklines <br> just before the <table> tag beginning.

This causes the there is a blank space just before the table. Does anyone know why it’s happening? Can anyone give me a hand with this distubing bug?

Just a couple of days of the first version of My Simple Table WordPress Plugin, we have ready to use MST v0.2!

The main new of this release is the multiple table support, i.e., more than one table for a post or page.

Just download and install it, you don’t need to change anything new (remeber to configure your styles in the file!)

MySimpleTable (MST) is my lastest plugin, just out from the oven. The aim of this plugin is to be able to draw tables in your posts or pages without needing to use html.

I use some simple meta-tags to declare the content of a table. This table can be configured using css (a global configuration for your site) to show different l&f. Let’s show how it works:

Just write these lines in a post (watch out! remove the blank space between the MST_H and the left bracket!):

It’s easy to use! Follow these simple steps:

1. Download the plugin from here
2. (optional) Edit it and modify the styles of the Header, Rows and Footer. To do it, just write the css definition you need into the declare sentences. There are more instrucctions at the same file.
3. Copy the plugin into wordpress/wp-content/plugins
4. Write a post or a page with your own MST tags. Remember to write the # symbol, and don’t write any blank space between MST_R and the (character!!!

El otro día moví la web de blaumari.org desde mi servidor a su sitio oficial. El traslado fue muy fácil:

• Primero, bájate todos los archivos del wp que quieras mover a tu ordenador.
• Edita el wp-config.php si los datos de conexión a BBDD son diferentes.
• Haz un backup de la BBDD. Generalmente los hostings tienen el phpMyAdmin. Es suficiente para hacer el backup. Pulsa sobre la opción Exportar, selecciona SQL como tipo de archivo y listo.
• En el nuevo servidor crear un BBDD que coincida con los datos de conexión del punto 2.
• Edita el SQL que has descargado para borrar la primera linea (o línea 12 real) CREATE DATABASE xxx…
• Sube la nueva BBDD. Otra vez con phpMyAdmin, simplemente pulsas Importar y subes el archivo
• Desde el phpMyAdmin ejecuta una sentencia SQL:

UPDATE wp_options SET option_value='http://www.tunuevohost.xxx/' WHERE option_id=1

• Copia todos los archivos del wp a la nueva location!
• Atención, recuerda de dar permisos de lectura a los directorios correspondientes (simple-cache, content…)

Esta tarde a las 20 horas se celebrará la presentación oficial de la nueva web de la Asociación de Actividades Subacuaticas Blau Marí, en Sant Joan Despí.

Hasta ahora la web que tenían estaba hecha en html, por lo que tenía un difícil mantenimiento. Necesitaban de la ayuda de un “experto” para poder cambiar los contenidos, subir fotos… por lo que apenas se actualizaba, el diseño no era muy potente…
Además tienen un hosting muy limitado, así que cuando querían subir fotos, tenían que primero reducir su tamaño, resolución, subirlas por ftp, crear todos los links, darles nombres… Un verdadero fastidio que provocaba que apenas se subieran fotos.

Con la nueva web he querido cambiar varias cosas. Por un lado la gestión del contenido. Es muy importante que exista un pequeño grupo de responsables que se encarguen de actualizar la web, y que por ello no necesiten de ningún conocimiento técnico. Para solventar este problema utilizo un CMS, WordPress.org 2.2, que va muy bien. Tiene editor WYSiWYG, un panel de control potente, y además traducido todo al castellano.

Por otro lado, para el tema de las fotos, lo que he preferido es utilizar un servicio de fotos completo como puede ser Picasa Web, que ofrece desde pase de diapositivas, subida automática con Picasa 2, diferentes vistas de las fotos, impresión, 1 GB por cuenta… También valoré Flickr, pero lo veo más complejo de usar para gente con poca experiencia en la Web.

Otro objetivo muy importante de la nueva web es fomentar la interacción de los otros socios. Queremos que todo el mundo se pueda expresar, para ello están abiertos los comentarios a todas las noticias de la web, incluiremos encuestas, y queremos que los socios suban sus propias fotos a PicasaWeb y nos envíen sus enlaces para compartir fotos!

Por último les he añadido algún plugin interesante, como el GetWeather, para conocer el tiempo actual en la Costa Brava. El MyGMMS, un muy interesante plugin para insertar Google Maps enriquecidos con KML en WordPress (disclaimer, soy el autor de MyGMMS), y Akismet por supuesto.

I’m using GetWeather plugin for BlauMarí home site (check this prototipe). However I have found a couple of issues I’d like to share.

First, to download to plugin, you must copy-paste the file (or dowloading it using svn) and then remove the line numbers… A bit ugly. Just download it from here, if you feel like. It contains GetWeather plugin, simple-cache plugin and the images folder.

Second, I caught an exception on line 122, because of using fopen(http) command. To fix this exception, just add these lines before line 122 (if (!($fp = fopen($file, “r”))) {):
